If you like a good mulled wine, you need to try “quentão”. And if you don’t like mulled wine, you should also try “quentão”! This drink gets very popular around Brazil in June because of “Festa Junina”, and it helps everyone to get warmer. Unlike mulled wine (in Portuguese: vinho quente), our “quentão” is made with Brazilian cachaça and is incredible! If you got tempted to try this drink, follow the recipe below:
Ingredients:
1 (750 millilitres) bottle cachaça
3 cups water
2 limes, sliced
¾ cup cubed fresh ginger root
1 cup white sugar
4 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
Directions:
Step 1: Pour sugar into a saucepan and place over medium-high heat. Cook while stirring gently until the sugar melts and turns golden brown (about 10 minutes).
Step 2: Carefully and slowly pour in the water, stirring to dissolve the caramel. Add the ginger, lime, and cinnamon; boil, then reduce heat to medium, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 3: Pour in the cachaca, and cook until hot (about 5 minutes more). Strain before serving.
